Hi. I'm Jay Waters, an instructor in the Advertising and Public Relations department here at the University of Alabama, and welcome to my personal site.

I'm interested in interesting people, projects, and problems.
The reason I love teaching and working in advertising is because it's always interesting. I'm still interested in meeting interesting people, working on interesting projects, and solving interesting problems. So if you have something interesting that you'd like to chat about, you need to email me at ghwaters1@ua.edu and we'll get a biscuit or a burger. (I'm not a coffee person, but you're free to drink all you want.) You can also schedule some time at https://calendly.com/ghwaters1
I like interesting photography.
One of the reasons that I love advertising is that it is an industry that celebrates creativity, not just in the creative for the ads, but in looking at problems creatively or doing research creatively or even buying media creatively. I like all of that and more, and one of the ways I like to express myself creatively outside of advertising is through my photography. All the photography on this site is photography that I've taken. I do all of my photography on my phone, because I think that focuses me on the image, not the technology, and it fosters a sense of spontaneity that I think is important for the photographs I think are interesting.
The photo below is of the Colorado River, right outside of Moab, Utah and Arches National Park. This photo was taken on Christmas Day, just before my wife and I rolled back into town to find the only one convenience store open. In the spirit of the movie A Christmas Story, we bought frozen egg rolls and a couple of frozen Chinese food entrees and heated them up in the microwave in the lobby at the Hampton Inn we were staying in.
